John “Jack” Thomas McPherson age 82, of Cincinnati, OH passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Hospice of Cincinnati.

He was born September 12, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, the eldest surviving son of the late William Deveny and Venus Venables McPherson.  Many of his fondest memories are from the farm his parents bought in Londonderry Township in Guernsey County.

Jack joined the Army after high school and served in the Korean War, but his enlistment was cut short when he was stricken with the Polio virus.  Thanks to the GI Bill, he was able to attend Ohio University in Athens where he met and married Lois A. Laub, mother of his 3 children and lifelong friend.  He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree and followed that with a Masters Degree from Chrysler Institute of Technology in Detroit, MI. He was employed for many years as an automotive engineer for the Chrysler and Ford Motor Companies.  Jack was a founding member of the Chrysler Ramchargers, their "High and Mighty" made history with Jack at the wheel.  He was known for his love of music and shared it generously whenever a piano was available. His other passion during this time was motorcycles and he made two road trips on his BMW, one through Europe and one to Canada with his son Mark.  In 1979 he met and married his second wife Alice in Boca Raton, Florida. While in Boca he maintained a full service piano tuning and refinishing business, restoring players and other treasured pianos back to their original glory.   He enjoyed theatre and was cast in several local plays while there including Mousetrap, Arsenic and Old Lace and You Can't Take it With You. He often fabricated mechanical props for these plays as well.  After retirement he was impacted by the development of post polio syndrome which eventually introduced him to his final set of 4 wheels, a motorized wheelchair.  He was a crackpot driver of that vehicle as well.  Despite declining health he continued to travel.  Most recently he travelled with his companion LaVerne Nieberding to South America as well as China and Korea to revisit his enlisted days.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant brother Hugh Sterling, his second wife Alice McPherson and step daughter Claudia Kugler.

He is survived by his first wife, Lois A. Fox and their 2 daughters Lori Anne (Oscar) Planas of Boca Raton, FL and Amy Lynn (Gregory) Hadjian of Columbus, OH; and their son Mark Alan (Kim) McPherson of Cincinnati as well as step son Dario Orlando of Georgia; 5 grandchildren: Sonia and Anthony Planas, Jenima and Shani Hadjian and Mia McPherson; younger brother David (Dunia) McPherson of Cleveland. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends will be received Monday, March 31, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Bond Funeral Home in Londonderry, OH. A Funeral Service will conclude visitation Monday, March 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Merlin Wentworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Antrim United Presbyterian Cemetery in Antrim, Ohio.

Having just learned of Jack's passing, I offer my belated condolences to Jack's family. He was a friendly, knowledgeable dispenser of wisdom to a young, at that time (1967), Ford suspension engineer.
